Annual crop reporting has not been a tradition for some vegetable growers. Why is reporting important? The United States Department of Agriculture and other federal agencies are now relaying more on these reports for disaster and other program payments to determine eligibility. Recently it has become very difficult for some producers to be able to participate in those programs. This process is more complicated for growers with multiple crops or plantings in the same field, but it is worth a try.
FSA can provide maps for producers to record the planted crops on them and FSA will load the reports into their system. They will then email reports to the producer for signatures, so you do not even need to go to the office. Producers can contact Stephanie Eastwick at Stephanie.Eastwick@usda.gov or call 856-285-7667 to get your maps or go over the process. This is a free service, so no third-party provider is needed.
