Insects and wildlife can damage many plants in the landscape and garden, rendering them pests to us. There are many ways to approach controlling these pests, and often knowing your enemy is key. Being able to identify which insect or animal is causing damage can help you determine how to best manage it. Sometimes it can be as easy as squishing the beetles eating your plant’s leaves, or warding off rabbits with a garden fence. Other times it may require more serious controls, like an insecticide targeted towards the specific insect. Many gardeners can utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to safely and economically control pests without damaging the environment.
